STEVENS POINT - Siegel Studio, Stevens Point’s all-in-one destination for tattoos, henna, fine jewelry, pressed florals, and more, has moved locations to Church Street across from Rookie’s Sports Pub.
Owner Hannah Siegel, born and raised in Stevens Point, has been creating art since a young age. “I’ve technically had Siegel Studio since I was eight or nine years old,” said Siegel. “My great-grandma used to make rosaries. We would go visit her when I was a kid, and she’d always be sitting there beading. I learned how to make jewelry from her.”
Siegel Studio technically got its start at a craft fair for fifth- and sixth-grade students at McDill Elementary School, where a young Siegel first sold her jewelry. Since graduating from college, Siegel has made the art studio and tattoo shop her full-time focus.
“When I graduated, I had so many offers, so I took it as a chance to go out on my own,” said Siegel. “I gave myself six months, and I told myself that if I could make the same amount of money working independently as I would with a 9-to-5 job, I’d stick with it.”
As she began building her own business, Siegel got her first studio space, which was located downtown. This previous location served as a working art studio and community space that she rented out to a variety of local artists.
Siegel Studio’s new location is primarily a tattoo studio. Kimberly Weinfurter of Heartfelt Aromatics and Henna also has a room in the shop, and the back of the building has been converted into an art studio for Siegel’s paintings and other artwork, which are done mostly on commission.
Siegel aims to create a positive and welcoming atmosphere in her tattoo shop. “Being in the tattoo industry, I learned that there are so many red flags surrounding the idea of tattoo parlors,” said Siegel. “I want to get rid of those stigmas and bring art back to being the focus. My goal is to make the vision in your head come to life in your tattoo design.”
“You’ll also find that my prices are a lot lower, because I’m not paying a shop or anyone else, I’m doing it for the art,” said Siegel. Tattoos are by appointment only and Siegel and Weinfurter will also post open studio hours online.
Locally-made items are also for sale in the studio for an added shopping element. These include books by local authors, sunglasses, stickers, hats, ceramics, homemade maple syrup, freeze-dried candy, some of Siegel’s pressed florals and more.
The public grand opening event will be on Friday, July 11, from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm. There will be flash tattoos, flash henna, and a food truck. “Stop in whether you want to get henna or a tattoo or just talk,” said Siegel. “The plan is to have the full space finished so that people can tour the art studio as well.”
