Posted

MADISON—In a year when the WIAA Individual Wrestling tournament set a new attendance record with a sold-out crowd at the Kohl Center, the Weyauwega-Fremont Warhawks set their own historic mark. The Warhawks sent 10 wrestlers to the individual tournament in Division 3, the highest number of participants for any team competing at state in 2025.

Sophomore Jaydon Le Noble made his second trip to state in the 106-lb division, and freshman Collin Hamm, who competed in the 150-lb division, reached their respective championship finals.

Le Noble entered the tournament as the top seed in his bracket. In his opening match, Le Noble made short work of Aquinas’ Lincoln Stanek, securing the win with a 17-1 technical fall. In Le Noble's next contest he defeated fifth-seeded Mineral Point's Memphis Burkhalter with a 13-6 decision.

In the championship final, Le Noble took on fellow sophomore Reegan Roy from Wabeno/Laona/Three Lakes, who Le Noble had defeated at sectionals in a 4-1 decision earlier this season. In one of the most evenly matched championship finals in the state tournament, Roy took home first place after a 2-1 decision.

Hamm, seeded second in his weight class, dominated seventh-seeded junior Mathias Kaiser from Stratford with a 21-5 technical fall in his first match. In his second match against sixth-seeded Trevor Paulson, Hamm won 8-3 to move on to the 150-lb division championship match.

In the first-place match, Hamm took on Auburndale senior Colton Weiler. Weiler got up big in period one, taking a 14-1 lead, and finished the match with a 17-1 technical fall, giving Hamm second place.

Fourth-seeded sophomore Carter Birdyshaw finished third in the 138-lb division, defeating Karrsen Bussan of Pardeeville in the third-place match 4-1.

Senior Tellyer Alix had an impressive run in the 215-lb division as he entered the bracket as a seventh seed and left with a third-place finish, knocking off 10th-seeded junior Sam Haines from Deerfield in his opening match 5-4. Alix took to the mat against second-seeded sophomore Taydyn Angell from Cornell/Gilman/Lake Holcombe, who Alix by pin fall.

Alix fell to third-seeded senior Parkview/Albany Wesley Egan, who would win the state championship.

Alix won the third-place match and added another notable victory to his tournament performance, defeating first-seeded Tyson Martin to take third place.

Carter McDaniel finished in sixth place in the 175-lbs division as he wraps up his senior individual season as a two-time All-State wrestler.

Sophomore Jake Buss won two matches in the 126-lb division; senior Riley Scherg won a match in the 120-lb weight class and sophomore Josue Azuara competed in the 113-lb division, senior Aiden Marquette participated in the 144-lb weight class and senior Connor Johnson competed in the 157-lb division.

The Weyauwega-Fremont Warhawks will take the momentum from the individual tournament into next weekend’s WIAA Team State Wrestling Tournament, March 7 in the University of Wisconsin Field House.

Weyauwega-Fremont will begin their march to the state championship in the semifinals 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 8. The Warhawks are seeded first in Division 3 and will take on fourth-seeded Oostburg.
