Waupaca and Weyauwega-Fremont moved closer to qualifying for the upcoming WIAA state football playoffs with recent wins.
Waupaca kept its postseason hopes alive on Oct. 12 with a 41-12 Bay Conference win over Shawano, while the Warhawks headed to Greenwood on Oct. 11 and returned home with a 60-46 Central Wisconsin Conference-Large win over Loyal/Greenwood.`
In other games from Oct. 11, Hortonville picked up a 27-26 Fox Valley Association win over Oshkosh West, Stevens Point fell to D.C. Everest 47-41 in double overtime, Stratford topped Amherst 48-20 and Crivitz blanked Clintonville 42-0.
Waupaca 41,
Shawano 12
Xzaver Pittman and Austin Adamczak combined for 372 yards on the ground and five rushing touchdowns in the Comets’ win over the Hawks.
Adamczak finished with 208 rushing yards on 20 carries and two scores and Pittman added 164 yards on 18 rushings while finding the end zone three times.
Adamczak had a hand in Waupaca’s other score, as he had a touchdown pass to Dylan Johnson and finished with 124 passing yards.
Waupaca took an 8-6 lead into the second quarter, but the Comets added to their lead with three touchdowns to take a 29-6 halftime lead.
The Comets added two more scores in the fourth quarter.

Loyal/Greenwood 46
The teams combined for 106 points 14 touchdowns and almost 1,000 yards of offense.
The Warhawks led 14-8 after one quarter, 30-16 at halftime and 46-24 after three quarters.
Loyal/Greenwood stayed in the game with a 22-point fourth quarter and outgained the Warhawks 507-447.
The Warhawks’ eight touchdowns included Kameron Zielke’s passes of 19 and 21 yards to Bryce Magdanz; Zielke’s runs of 1, 15 and 40 yards; Dawson Lind’s runs of 47 and 80 yards; and Connor Johnson’s 13-yard run.
Johnson’s touchdown gave the Warhawks a 60-30 lead in the fourth quarter, but Loyal/Greenwood cut into the lead with a pair of touchdowns and two-point conversions.
Lind led the Warhawks with 186 rushing yards, while Zielke completed 13 of 20 passes for 188 yards.
Hortonville 27,
Oshkosh West 26
Tristan Berrens ran for three scores to help the Polar Bears defeat the Wildcats.
Both teams scored a touchdown in the first quarter. Jake Balog opened the scoring for Oshkosh West with a 5-yard run after Hortonville turned the ball over on its first two possessions on a fumble and interception.
The Polar Bears answered with a 4-yard run from Berrens, who was filling in at running back for the injured Levi Strange.
Oshkosh West regained the lead in the second quarter on Landon Ubrig’s 50-yard pass to Alex Dyken. Hortonville scored on AJ Pheifer’s 44-yard pass to Levi Hebbe and the teams headed to halftime tied at 14-14.
Ubrig’s 10-yard run gave the Wildcats a 20-14 lead in the third quarter, but Berrens tied the game later in the quarter with a 60-yard run.
Elliot Reed’s 30-yard field goal gave Oshkosh West a 23-20 lead, but Berrens gave the Polar Bears the lead for good with an 85-yard run.
Reed added a 29-yard field goal later in the third quarter to cut the lead to 27-26 and neither team scored in the fourth quarter.
Berrens finished with 228 rushing yards and Hebbe caught eight of Pheifer’s passes for 126 yards.
D.C. Everest 47,
Stevens Point 41 (2 OT)
The Evergreens knocked off the Panthers in a game that included nine ties or lead changes and a pair of overtime periods.
D.C. Everest led 28-14 at halftime and 35-14 at one point in the third quarter.
Cohen Priebe started the Panthers’ comeback with an 82-yard kickoff return. Stevens Point added a pair of touchdowns late in the fourth quarter and the teams headed to overtime tied at 35-35.
The Evergreens scored on its first overtime possession on a 10-yard pass from Logan George to Cole O’Brien. The Panthers answered with Grant Chandonais’ 25-yard pass to Jonny Ananiadis, but both teams missed their extra point to force a second overtime.
George scored from a yard out for the game-winning touchdown while the Evergreens’ defense kept the Panthers out of the end zone.
Johnny Mathews had a pair of rushing touchdowns and led the Panthers with 149 yards on the ground. Ananiadis caught five passes for 107 yards and two scores.
Stevens Point didn’t have an answer for Blake Bangston, who finished with a game-high 249 rushing yards and caught five passes for 112 yards.
Stratford 48,
Amherst 20
The Tigers wrapped up at least a share of the CWC-Large with a win over the Falcons.
Stratford had the game’s only score of the first quarter, as Jack Tubbs scored on a 77-yard quarterback keeper.
The teams traded touchdowns in the second quarter, as Michael Glodowski’s 12-yard pass to Sully Perkins and Tyler Loken’s extra point tied the game at 7-7.
Tubbs connected with Jett Schoenherr for a 5-yard touchdown pass and the Falcons kept pace with Glodowski’s 6-yard run. Stratford’s Alec Chappel caught a 13-yard pass from Tubbs with 18 seconds remaining in the quarter to give the Tigers a 21-14 lead at the break.
Amherst never tied the game in the second half. Glodowski capped the Falcons’ first drive-of-the-half with a 9-yard run, but the Tigers blocked the extra point attempt.
Amherst never found the end zone again, as the Tigers sealed their 21st straight win with four unanswered touchdowns.
Tubbs scored on a 4-yard run before hitting Coltan Breit for a 30-yard pass that gave the home team a 34-20 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Brooks Vanderhoof and Schoenherr wrapped up the scoring with 64- and 22-yard runs, respectively.
Stratford outgained the Falcons 447-209, including 260-172 on the ground and 187-37 through the air.
Crivitz 42,
Clintonville 0
Clintonville could not get its offense going in a Northwoods Conference loss to the Wolverines.
Crivitz took a 14-0 lead into the second quarter after a 36-yard punt return from Devon Weiss and Brody MacNiel’s 1-yard run.
The Wolverines added three more scores in the second quarter on a 9-yard run from MacNeil and Evan Orlando’s 35- and 69-yard passes to Stephen Allard.
Weiss wrapped up the scoring in the third quarter with a 7-yard run.
Crivitz held the Truckers to minus 7 yards of offense.
