WAUPACA – The Waupaca Historical Society will present, “Cranberries: How Wisconsin Became Best,” on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Holly History and Genealogy Center. This program kicks off the Waupaca Historical Society’s spring program series.
Heidi Slinkman, a fifth-generation cranberry grower in Wisconsin Rapids, will present the program, a crash course in how the geography, climate, sociology and farming culture of Wisconsin combine to make the most productive cranberry region in the world. Slinkman’s family farm, the Gaynor Cranberry Company of Wisconsin Rapids, resides in the township of Cranmoor. Established in 1876, 2025 will be their 149th season of cultivating cranberries. Gaynor Cranberry Company is a generational farm with, according to Slinkman, “layers of history, heritage, love, passion, tragedy, tradition, perseverance, community and culture.”
This Waupaca Historical Society program will take place at the Holly Center at 321 S. Main Street. Refreshments will be served.
