Cliver takes first as Polar Bears host FVA meet

The Hortonville’s varsity wrestling team hosted the Fox Valley Association (FVA) Meet on Saturday, Feb. 7. Joe Cliver took first place in the 145-pound weight class, while teammates Jacob Barnett (113 pounds), Cam Luker (138 pounds), Elliot Luker (152 pounds), and Jack Huebner (220 pounds) all took second place. Nathan Lichtfuss (132 pounds) took third place in his bracket.

The conference showdown featured wrestlers from Hortonville, Appleton East, Appleton North, Appleton West, Fond du Lac, Kaukauna, Kimberly, Menasha, Neenah, Oshkosh North, and Oshkosh West.

106 pounds

Hortonville’s Noah Heimmermann lost his first match by pin but came back to pin his next two opponents, earning a spot in the third place match. In that match, Heimmermann lost a 7-0 decision to Jake Schramm of Kaukauna – the same wrestler who had pinned him in his first match. Heimmermann took fourth place.

113 pounds

Jacob Barnett took second place after wrestling well all day. He started by pinning his first two opponents, earning a spot in the first place match. Barnett lost a 12-3 decision to Oshkosh North’s Brandon Green in that match to take second place.

120 pounds

Leighton Serran placed sixth for the Polar Bears, losing three matches and taking one bye in a tough bracket.

126 pounds

Curtis Diedrich won his first match by a 6-2 decision but lost his second match. In his consolation semi-final matchup, Diedrich bounced back to pin his opponent to earn a spot in the third place match. In that match, he lost an 8-3 decision to Neenah’s Isaac Bethel. Diedrich took fourth place.

132 pounds

Nathan Lichtfuss won his first match but lost his second match. In the consolation semi-final, Lichtfuss bounced back to earn a win and advance to the third place match. In that match, he won a 2-0 decision over Kimberly’s Jordan Weinzetl. Lichtfuss took third place.

138 pounds

Cam Luker started the day with a pin and followed it up with a 4-2 win to advance to the first place match. Luker was pinned by Kaukauna’s Robert Lee in that match, but he secured a second place finish.

145 pounds

Joe Cliver turned in the best performance of the day for the Polar Bears, taking first place in his weight class. He started the day with a pin and followed it up with a 16-1 tech fall in his second match. Cliver advanced to the first place match and earned a 3-2 decision over Fond du Lac’s Josh Adams to capture first place.

152 pounds

Elliot Luker started the day by pinning his first two opponents to advance to the first place match. Luker then lost an 8-5 decision to Kaukauna’s Bailey VanHandel, taking second place.

160 pounds

Alex Kuske lost his first preliminary match and bounced back to win his second preliminary match. He won his first consolation round match by a 10-2 decision but was pinned in his next two matches, taking sixth place.

170 pounds

Zac Gerner won his first match of the day but lost his next two and had to forfeit his final match, taking sixth place.

182 pounds

Michael Hills won his first match by pin but lost his second match. In the consolation semi-final match, he pinned his opponent to earn a spot in the third place match. In that match, he lost a 4-0 decision to Appleton North’s AJ Jarrett. Hills took fourth place.

195 pounds

Nate Bohman was pinned in both of his preliminary matches.

220 pounds

Jack Huebner stared the day with a 4-1 decision win and then earned a hard-fought 9-8 decision over Appleton North’s Hunter Lee. In the first place match, Huebner was pinned by Kaukauna’s Mason VanAsten. Huebner took second place in his weight class.

285 pounds

Jacob Stein won his first match by pin but lost his second match. He gave up medical forfeits in his next two matches, taking sixth place.
