Truckers split with Berlin

The Clintonville Truckers baseball team played Berlin twice last week, splitting a pair of games.

In the first game Tuesday, April 21, the Truckers traveled to Berlin and dropped a 6-1 contest.

Berlin scored first, getting a run in the second inning. Clintonville countered two innings later when it scored a run.

A shaky fourth inning allowed Berlin to pull ahead for good. Clintonville committed three errors, walked three batters, and hit a batter while giving up five runs in the inning.

Clintonville outhit Berlin five to three, but couldn’t overcome seven walks, three hit batters and five errors in the game.

Hunter Vollmer took the loss for Clintonville

The Truckers go their revenge two days later when Berlin traveled to Clintonville.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first three innings. Berlin put three runs on the scoreboard in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead.

The Truckers countered in the bottom of the fifth inning with three of their own runs. In their last at bat, Clintonville scored two runs to force the game to extra innings.

Clintonville loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth inning and scored the winning run on a bases loaded balk.

Nick Hogen was the winning pitcher for Clintonville.

Zac Riemer and Chad Bork each had two hits for the Truckers.
