Tate Drummond wraps up golf career at Manawa

Posted

During the 2026 boys’ golf season, Tate Drummond made a name for himself on the Manawa Wolves team. He was named Central Wisconsin Conference golfer of the year, helping his team finish the season on a high note.

Tate earned First-Team selection and All-Conference honors for the third year in a row.

Beginning his journey as a toddler, Tate has been competing ever since: “I’ve been competing in golf since I was 2 years old.” And has had the game passed down to him through family, “My Dad and Grandpa introduced me to golf when I was very young.”

Although his love of golf is apparent, it wasn’t always his number one sport: “No, golf has not always been my favorite sport. When I was really young, I loved golf. However, when I was in 3rd grade until about 7th grade, I had a huge passion for football, and I wanted to be a football player when I grew up.”

Tate figured out a balance between his time in the classroom and on the course during his high school tenure, “Balancing academics and athletics for me has always been tough. My freshman year, I played baseball and golf at the same time in the spring. My passion for sports was so strong that I really struggled to put my academics before athletics. However, as my high school career went on, I figured out that if you put your academics first, you will still have lots of time for athletics.”

Drummond strives for excellence every time he’s on the green: “My favorite part about golf is the quest for perfection. US amateurs are nothing like the pros; however, every once in a while, we can hit a shot like them. That feeling is why I keep playing.”

Being able to lean on his strengths has helped Tate throughout his career: “The biggest asset that I have while competing is that I’ve learned to play to my strengths when the pressure is high. For any sport, when there is a lot of pressure, getting back to your bread and butter can help you drastically in high-pressure situations.”

The appreciation Tate has for his coaches is abundantly clear: “I would love to give a shout out to my coach Tim Schuelke. He has molded me into the player I am right now, and I couldn’t ask for a better coach to learn from. I would like to give special shout-outs to Dakota Stroud and Bryce Stern, who compete with me and push me every day. Or Easton Miller and Hunter Phillips are making me laugh at practice. These people, as well as all other teammates I have had, have helped make every practice and season unforgettable.”

Tate has seen his maturation process on display throughout his high school career: “It feels great knowing that I can look back on my high school life and realize that I’m growing into the person that I want to be. Coming in as a freshman, I was fairly cocky and wasn’t that great at golf. However, with a lot of maturing as an individual, I can definitely tell how much I’ve grown. Not only as a golfer, but as a person too.”
