HORTONVILLE- Roman Glad scored the game’s lone goal and goalkeeper Eli Ryan delivered a clean-sheet performance as Hortonville edged Green Bay Preble 1-0 in a hard-fought boys soccer match on Oct. 24.
With the victory, the Hortonville Polar Bears improved their impressive season record to 16-1-1 and advanced in the WIAA boys soccer playoffs, while the Green Bay Preble Hornets fell to 13-5-3 and were eliminated.
In a tight, defensive contest where scoring opportunities were at a premium, Hortonville made its decisive push count. Fenton Hirschi set up the game-winner, connecting with Glad, who put away his shot on goal to give the Polar Bears the lead.
At the other end of the pitch, Ryan was flawless between the pipes. Playing all 80 minutes, Ryan turned away five saves on five shots faced, preserving the shutout and keeping Green Bay Preble off the scoreboard entirely.
