Learn how nature adapts

Posted

WAUPACA – The Winchester Academy will present “Nature: More Than Meets the Eye” by Chuck “Ritz” Ritzenthaler on October 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Waupaca Area Public Library lower-level meeting rooms.

Ritzenthaler is a retired high school biology teacher and a volunteer naturalist at the River Edge Nature Center in West Bend.

Using a variety of plant and animal examples, Chuck will describe creative adaptations in nature.

Adaptations give organisms like monarchs, goldenrod, spiders, dragonflies, burdock, fireflies, and yellow sweet clover brilliant survival strategies.

A closer look at their structure and how they function has revealed information leading to impactful human innovations. How does studying spiders impacts birds? How has knowing more about sharks affected navy ships and the ocean? What does burdock have to do with our shoes? How does studying a specific plant save lives?

Ritzenthaler will reveal that there is more to the story of nature than meets the eye.

Barry and Ruby Shaw are the sponsors for this program.
