The Amherst Falcons took on the Weyauwega-Fremont Warhawks in a Central Wisconsin Conference-East matchup on Feb.12.

Amherst’s Colton Vander Laan dropped 27 points, connecting on 8-of-19 from the field and three-of-five from beyond the arc. He also went 8-of-12 at the free-throw line, capitalizing on late-game opportunities to help seal the win.

Junior Taylan McCormick added 17 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, while Sully Perkins chipped in 13 points and eight boards. Antonio Vaquera contributed nine points, five rebounds, and two steals in an all-around performance that helped set the tone defensively.

The Warhawks leaned heavily on senior leader Broc Billington, who poured in 27 points to keep his squad within striking distance throughout the night. He was supported by Tinsae Rucks 11 points, Ethan Koplien 10, and Bryce Magdanz 9.

Tied 60-60, they needed an extra five minutes to determine a winner; Amherst shut the door on the Warhawks, as they got off to a fast start outscoring Weyauwega-Fremont 15-7 to win 75-67.
