Driver crashes into parked deputy

No license, no insurance

FREMONT – On Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 5:46 a.m., a deputy from Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office was parked alongside the highway with his emergency lights activated while providing traffic control at a traffic crash scene along U.S. Highway 10 westbound east of Old 49 Road in the Town of Fremont.
A westbound SUV traveling at a high rate of speed struck the rear end of the patrol vehicle. The deputy in the patrol vehicle was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision. He was transported by ambulance to ThedaCare Medical Center of Waupaca, where he was treated and released.
The driver of the striking westbound SUV was evaluated by medical personnel at the scene and declined medical attention. Weyauwega Police Department investigated the traffic crash. The driver was cited for: operating without a valid driver license, unreasonable and imprudent speed, failure to maintain control of vehicle, failure to change lanes when passing a stopped emergency vehicle and failure to have insurance.
The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Weyauwega Police Department, Fremont Wolf River Fire Department, and Fremont-Wolf River Ambulance.
