WEYAUWEGA – A Weyauwega man is facing multiple felony charges following an alcohol-fueled paroxysm where he allegedly threatened a woman and two children with a crossbow and fought with them over a cell phone.
Sean Michael Daker, 41, was charged in Waupaca County Circuit Court with two counts of causing mental harm to a child, possession of a firearm by a felon, intimidation of a victim, and disorderly conduct.
The charges are from an incident on Wednesday, March 11, at a residence on Highway 10. According to the criminal complaint, Waupaca County sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call after a child reported that her mother’s boyfriend was “pushing and hitting her.”
The mother told investigators that Daker, who is on probation with absolute sobriety conditions, had been boozing heavily throughout the day.
When the family returned after the picking up the two children after school, Daker made crude comments and squeezed the nine-year-old girl so hard she bite his arm to make him let go. “Don’t talk to me ever again you little [racial slur],” he said.
When the 11-year-old girl attempted to record Daker’s behavior on her phone, he lunged at her and the mother put Daker in a headlock. The children and the mother escaped and locked themselves in the bathroom as Daker punched the door.
The mother threatened to call 911.
“If you call, you’re not going to wake up tomorrow,” he said.
Daker ran upstairs to retrieve a crossbow and the mother and children used the moment to flee the residence in a vehicle to the Weyauwega Travel Plaza. They later met law enforcement officers there.
One of the children later told a sergeant that Daker had previously aimed the crossbow at them and “pretended to shoot them” while drunk.
Law enforcement arrived the next day with a “knock and announce” search warrant. Daker was reportedly non-compliant during his arrest and had to be forcibly wrestled to the ground by a detective.
During a search of the home, authorities recovered a, a scoped Ruger 10-22 semiautomatic .22-caliber rifle with one round in the chamber and two 25-round banana magazines (.22 caliber).
Daker is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a 2021 felony conviction for his fifth or sixth OWI offense. If convicted on all counts, Daker faces more than 35 years in prison and significant fines.
