Iola Car Show launches specialty license plate

Posted

IOLA – The Iola Car Show specialty license plate will become available to the public June 9 through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Special License Plate program.

The new plate celebrates the Iola Car Show, one of the nation’s largest automotive events. Organizers said the specialty plate is the result of years of work and strong support from community members and automotive enthusiasts across Wisconsin.

The project gained momentum following a public signature campaign supporting the effort. Organizers said the final plate design was selected with input from the public.

“We wanted this plate to feel like more than just another registration option,” Iola Car Show Executive Director Joe Opperman said in a statement. “This is something people can proudly display on their vehicles while also helping support the future of the show and the nonprofit organizations connected to it.”

In addition to standard registration and issuance fees established by the state, each plate includes a $25 annual donation supporting the charitable mission of Iola Old Car Show Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Organizers said the funds will help support improvements to the show, youth programs, community initiatives and more than 120 volunteer and nonprofit groups connected to the event.

According to organizers, the Iola Car Show has contributed more than $10 million to community organizations and volunteer groups since becoming a nonprofit organization. The car show and swap meet draws more than 120,000 attendees annually to Iola and features thousands of show cars, nearly 4,000 swap spaces, entertainment, camping and community programming.
