New London Irish traveled to take on Plover on Aug. 2 in BABA action.
Plover jumped out to a lead in the bottom of the third inning with a line-drive single to left field, followed by an error that brought in another runner and a bases-loaded walk that gave them a 3-0 lead.
The Irish closed the gap on the scoreboard as a double on a line drive brought in a run and a groundball single, making the deficit 3-2.
Plover extended the lead with a fly ball single to center field that made the lead 4-2, and in the sixth inning they went up 5-2 as a single made the score 5-2.
New London’s fortunes changed in the top of the seventh inning, with a triple that drove in a run followed by a single on a line drive to left by Jackson Fox that made the deficit 5-4.
Ethan Bergen gave the Irish the first lead of the game with a two-run double to left field to take a 6-5 lead, and a line drive single followed to make the score 7-5.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Plover tied the game with a run on a fielder’s choice, and a double made the score knotted at 7-7.
In the top of the eighth inning, Ethan Hertzfeldt hit a two-run home run for the Irish that helped his team regain the lead and go up 9-7.
Plover got within a run after a single to right field, but it was not enough as New London closed the door and won 9-8.
