Jerry Hagen, age 77, of Waupaca, died unexpectedly at home on Sunday, September 20, 2026, leaving an immense void in the hearts of everyone who knew and cherished him. He was born in Waupaca on June 16, 1949 to Glen “Vern” and Prudence “Prudie” (Tobie) Hagen. On November 28, 1986, he was united in marriage to LuAnn Vaughan - they were just shy of celebrating their 40 th anniversary.

Those who knew Jerry knew him as a soft-spoken, kind, and decent man. After learning of his passing, several people shared similar sentiments: “What a nice guy he was,” and “I always enjoyed talking to him.” Those simple words perhaps describe Jerry better than anything else. He was just a genuinely nice guy.

Jerry was a devoted husband and father who cherished his family and the life they shared. He found simple pleasures in the quiet moments, especially sitting in his chair by the picture window of the log home built by his dad for him and LuAnn, watching nature unfold outside. He especially loved watching the birds, taking time to notice and appreciate the beauty around him.

Family and faith were at the heart of Jerry’s life. He cherished his family and friends and held each of his relationships close to his heart. Jerry was also a dedicated servant of God. His faith was an important part of his life, and he read his well-worn Bible daily, often circling the passages that were especially meaningful to him.

Jerry’s quiet nature did not diminish the impact he had on the people around him. He dedicated 35 years of service to the residents of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, where he formed meaningful relationships with staff and members. Working at the Wisconsin Veterans Home was his way of giving back - he often felt guilty that he was unable to serve in the military due to asthma, as many of his

classmates were shipped off to war. He always took the time to thank a veteran and shake their hand, no matter where he crossed paths with them.

He loved the outdoors and the many activities that gave him a chance to enjoy nature. He especially enjoyed duck hunting, deer hunting, fishing, cutting wood, golfing and watching his grandson’s sporting events. Some of his fondest memories were made during trips to Canada and in the Northwoods, where he treasured the special time spent with good friends while four-wheeling.

Jerry will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his quiet strength, his faith, his love for his family and nature, and, above all, for simply being a good man. He was the kind of person people enjoyed talking with and were grateful to know.

He will be deeply missed by the love of his life, LuAnn of Waupaca; children: Mary (Neil) Schulke of Waupaca and Jason (Holly) Hagen of HI; brother, Jon (Pam) Hagen; grandchildren: Jadyn Schulke and Megan Nicewander (Chad Kramlich); niece and Goddaughter, Jessica (Jorge Raasch) and their children, Josefina “Fina” and Julia; and niece: Laura (Dave) Wentworth and their daughter, Eloise.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; infant son and twin to Jason: Joshua; sister, Judy Krenz; and brother-in-law, Mike Vaughan.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2026 at the Maple Crest Funeral Home. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Why do I love my husband so much? After we got married, my husband became my safe place. He’s the one I laugh with, cry with, and share every little piece of my life. He didn’t start with wealth, a family business or an inheritance. But God blessed him with something far more valuable: a hardworking heart, strong character and an unwavering sense of responsibility. Dear God, thank you for choosing me to walk through life beside this incredible man. Please continue to bless him, protect him and keep our marriage with love, peace and your guidance.

Love always, LuAnn
