New city clerk appointed in New London

NEW LONDON – At a special New London Common Council meeting March 4, the council approved the appointment of Karolanne Lehman to the position of city clerk.
Lehman was appointed by New London Mayor Mark Herter.
At the special meeting, New London City Administrator Chad Hoerth reminded the council that the city’s previous city clerk left in November and the vacancy was posted throughout December.
“After the first of the year we had 70 applications, so we went through that process and narrowed it down to the top five,” Hoerth said.
After interviewing the top five candidates, the list was trimmed to the top three candidates.

Hoerth said the top candidate declined the position after it was offered to her.
“Evidently she was not ready to leave her current job,” Hoerth said.
Hoerth said Lehman has municipal experience in the law enforcement field.
“We really didn’t have a really deep depth of candidates who have a lot of clerk experience, but we did have some candidates with municipal experience,” Hoerth said. “That’s one of the reasons Karolanne came to our top (of the list). She also has experience in the Army National Guard, which was very positive as well.”
