NEW LONDON — The New London Area Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce the first-ever Pumpkin Palooza on Saturday, Oct. 18. This is an all-new community event designed to celebrate fall, family, and wellness right in the heart of downtown New London.
Pumpkin Palooza will take place Saturday, October 18, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., transforming the downtown district into a pumpkin-themed playground for all ages. Downtown roads will close at 2:30 p.m. to allow for setup and ensure a safe, walkable experience for families.
“This event is truly about bringing our community together,” said April Kopitzke, Executive Director of the New London Area Chamber of Commerce. “We wanted to create something that celebrates local businesses, wellness, and creativity — all wrapped up in a fun, fall-themed evening.”
Event Highlights
• Business Trick-or-Treating – Businesses throughout the district will hand out candy and treats to costumed kids during the city’s first-ever business trick-or-treat event. An interactive map will be shared virtually and handed out during the event.
• Pumpkin Games & Nature Art – Enjoy pumpkin-themed games, face painting, and a Nature Mark Making Station with local visual artist Ashley Ellis, using pumpkins, corncobs, and apples.
• Furry Friends Welcome – Bring your costumed pets to join the fun and show off their best fall looks. A petting zoo will feature all types of animals in St. John’s Park. The HERD mascot, Pointer will be making an appearance as well.
• Spooky Stroll & Stretch – Start your evening with a guided kids’ yoga stretch from Mindful Movements, followed by a “Spooky Stroll” mini-parade through downtown.
• Music, Hayrides & Family Fun – Yo DJ Entertainment will play festive tunes while families enjoy hayrides, a haunted semi created by New London DECA students, and interactive activities hosted by local businesses. Academy Martial Arts welcome children to try out an interactive obstacle course downtown.
• Apple & Cider Bar – Visit the Chamber tent for free apple sundaes and hot apple cider, and some treats for the kids around our cozy hay bales and warm fires.
Families, children and pets are encouraged to join us in their best dressed costume to be entered into the costume contests judged by our very own Mayor, Mark Herter. Prizes will vary for each category.
Proceeds from Pumpkin Palooza will support the New London Area Chamber Foundation’s community grant writer position, a collaborative effort between the Chamber, City of New London, and School District of New London — helping secure future funding for local projects and community development.
“This is more than just a fall festival — it’s an investment in the future of New London,” added Kopitzke. “We’re so thankful to our presenting partner, ThedaCare, for helping us make this vision a reality.”
