Rezoning for multi-family housing

Posted

WAUPACA – The Waupaca City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a certified survey map for a nearly 15-acre property at 780 Bowling Lane, marking what officials call the first step toward a potential multi-family housing development
The parcel in question is at 780 Bowling Lane, where the Waupaca Small Animal Hospital is located.
The parcel is 14.94 acres according to a memo from Julianna Stohs, the community and economic development director, and it would be split into two separate lots.
The memo also states that the property division will facilitate the sale of lot 2.
The change of zoning would allow for the parcel to not only be split, giving a smaller piece of property to the animal hospital but also allow the new parcel to be developed for multi-family housing.

“We’re in favor of this because the intent, or what we’re hoping, is that it does spur more development in that area,” said Justin Berrens, interim city administrator and director of public works.
The animal hospital would retain its private well and septic tank.
A request has been made to change the zoning on the lot to allow for the multi-family housing which would align with the City’s comprehensive plan for medium-density housing.
The zoning change is set to be considered June 3 at a Plan Commission meeting.
Berrens said the plan commission reviewed the lot to ensure the proper requirements were met, a good ingress and egress on both sides of the property as well as driveway potential in the future.
The certified survey map was approved by unanimous vote at the May 19 city council meeting.
