School of fish sculpture installed along Wolf River

NEW LONDON — The Wolf River Art League installed community artwork that resembles a school of fish on the sculpture trail along the Wolf River.
On Sept. 17, members of the Wolf River Art League (WRAL), together with the New London Parks and Recreation Department crew, installed 10 stainless-steel panels into the frame of the sculpture. The piece sits along the riverbank behind Community First Credit Union, across the river from Dairy Queen.
“For the past three years, the Wolf River Art League and New London Parks and Recreation have partnered to develop and promote the idea of a sculpture trail that stretches from the Shawano Street Bridge to the Waters Supper Club, and eventually on to the Riverside Park boat landing,” said Lori Schneider, Wolf River Art League president.
The sculpture’s design—created by league members—will eventually feature hundreds of fish representing local residents, families, and businesses. Each fish can be engraved with a name, logo or sentiment. The proceeds help fund the continuing development of the sculpture trail, themed “Life on the River.”
“Funds remaining from murals and previous donations paid for the massive frame, which was built by Waupaca Fabrication,” Schneider said. “At least 750 additional fish are needed to fill the empty spaces.”
Residents and businesses can purchase engraved fish online at wolfriverart.org under the Sculpture Trail tab. Order forms are also available at the New London Area Chamber of Commerce, New London Senior Center, and the Parks and Recreation office.
The Parks and Recreation Department has also designated part of the Riverside Park Boat Launch overflow lot for trail walker parking, supporting the growing vision of a riverside sculpture trail that celebrates New London’s connection to the Wolf River.
