Simmie the friendly ghost

A supper-club poltergeist

WAUPACA – When a business has been around long enough, you can always count on it accumulating at least one ghost story with the lore of said ghost growing with each new generation.
Simpson’s Restaurant has been at its location since 1932 and has their own ghost over its long history in the community.
The ghost is thought to be one of the original owners, Wayland North Simpson; or Simmie, which is a play on his last name.
When any unusual event is happens, the consensus is that it is Simmie making his presence known or just checking on things around the restaurant.
Danny DeHay bought Simpsons in 2019 and was familiar with the Simmie ghost stories when he and his family took over the restaurant’s ownership.

DeHay said things like lights flickering, water turning on and off on its own and one report of a figure walking through, which came from his sister-in-law when she worked at Simpsons years prior.
A paranormal team that investigates ghostly activity came through the restaurant in early 2021 and their video was posted on YouTube.
The GoGetEmm Paranormal Team used a tool referred to as an SLS camera, which stands for structured-light camera. They also used a Kinect sensor, a motion sensing input device used in gaming. The tool will track movement and outline any potential ghost as a stick figure.
According to their recordings, Simmie appeared to have made himself known by waving to the team as well as watching the preparation of an old fashioned cocktail that was being made for him.
The interactions throughout the show were tame and friendly, which would lead one to believe that he is simply around to watch the restaurant and the day-to-day activities.
DeHay said one experience he had was when he was doing a walkthrough of the entire restaurant and when he reached the basement had noticed that part of the basement did not have lights on.
As DeHay looked through the rest of the basement, he turned around to the same area and said he noticed the lights had turned on, and figured it was the night cleaner just finishing something up.
Then DeHay noticed that there was a small purse or fanny pack sitting on the ground in front of the door to his office and the office door was shut, with the light on and when he opened it, no one was in there.
Strange occurrences can’t always be easily explained away. There is an eerie feeling of being watched and something falls and the lights flicker. Is it the ghost of Simmie keeping an eye on the restaurant he loved? Or is it all just coincidence?
