SPASH volley goes to five sets

STEVENS POINT- SPASH Panthers volleyball (12-5) faced the visiting Marshfield Tigers (18-4 on Sept. 25) in a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup for the conference lead.

In the opening set, Marshfield got out to an early lead, but SPASH gained momentum and tied the score at 11-11.

Marshfield would take back the lead later in the set and take a 1-0 lead in the match with a kill that finished the opening set 25-19.

In the second set, both teams traded points as the score became 28-27, as Evalee Kraemer delivered a kill for SPASH that finished off the set 29-27 and tied the match 1-1.

The third set was another competitive back-and-forth matchup, but Marshfield took over and won 25-22 to get a victory.

SPASH needed a win in the fourth set to stay alive; once again the teams looked evenly matched. The Panthers kept the pace and decided the set with a kill by Nora Krueger that got the 25-23 victory and pushed the match to a fifth and final set.

In the final set, Marshfield took an early lead and kept the advantage until the score was 13-12.

SPASH fought to regain the lead and won with an ace to take down the Tigers and advance to 3-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.
