STEVENS POINT—During the Sept. 14 Finance Committee meeting, Synergy Sports presented a sports facility designed to host sporting events and athletic tournaments in the Stevens Point area.
The presentation and study was conducted by Synergy Sports on behalf of the Stevens Point Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The facility would house eight courts, which represent the industry baseline required to attract major tournament organizers. The proposed complex would feature space capable of hosting basketball, volleyball, pickleball, wrestling, cheer and dance competitions, trade shows, and corporate conferences.
Conceptual plans also incorporate a family entertainment center with an arcade, an athlete performance training center, administrative offices, and dedicated space for sports medicine and physical therapy partners. The project is sited on 30 acres of city-owned land, leaving approximately nine acres available for adjacent commercial development such as hotels, restaurants, and retail spaces.
The study estimates the complex would generate $8.5 million in total economic impact in its first year.
The proposed facility received letters of support from the executive director of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association, the superintendent of Stevens Point Area Public Schools, board members from the Stevens Point Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, and the general manager of the Holiday Inn Convention Center/Holiday Inn Express.
No formal action was taken on the sports facility as it was an introductory presentation.
