Tennis Club to host two scrimmages

Posted

CLINTONVILLE – The Clintonville School District’s Tennis Club is scheduled to host two matches this year.

Mandy Hill, the volunteer advisor for the Clintonville Tennis Club, addressed the Clintonville Board of Education at its Aug. 24 board meeting, regarding the district’s Tennis Club. She said this is the second year that the Tennis Club has existed. She added that volunteers do the coaching.

Participants in the club this year are expected to be 12-15 girls, with eight of those returning from last year, Hill said.

“It is a little harder to find anybody to play us just because we are not a WIAA sanctioned team at this point, since we’re just a club status,” Hill said. “If an actual team were to play us, it doesn’t really count for their matches that they have to get, so we’re struggling a little bit. But we’re happy with two (scrimmages). We had zero last year.”

Board Treasurer Klint Barkow asked if the WIAA requires a minimum number of team members.

Hill said the WIAA requires 10 team members.

“They’re probably going to meet the minimum now, so based on how things shake out the next two weeks, we’re going to continue to have conversations if we want to keep pursuing things in the future,” said Clintonville Superintendent Troy Kuhn.
