The Viking Age comes to Scandinavia

Posted

SCANDINAVIA – For those looking to celebrate Father’s Day with a glimpse into the past, the Viking Age is coming to Main Street.

The Wisconsin River Ravens, a local historical reenactment group, will host the Scandinavia Viking Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 20.

Located at Odin & Freja’s Place at 340 N. Main St., the event will feature live steel combat demonstrations, displays of Norse cultural artifacts, and handmade wares that will be available for purchase.

The Scandinavia event follows the group’s recent Viking Market in nearby Iola, continuing the group’s mission to share historical demonstrations and music with communities across the state.

While large Renaissance fairs and commercial festivals take place throughout the summer, the Wisconsin River Ravens focus on creating laid-back, community-centered gatherings where visitors can closely interact with the reenactors.

Visitors to the Scandinavia market can expect to see reenactors outfitted in hand-sewn, Viking-age attire wielding handcrafted shields or playing handmade musical instruments.
