The University of Wisconsin-Extension is inviting local dairy farmers to participate in a survey examining the actual costs of raising heifers.
The research project aims to collect real farm data to establish industry-wide benchmarks and help producers make more informed management decisions. Farmers who participate will receive comparative results from the study.
The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete when financial records are readily available. Participants will need information including labor costs for owners and employees, death loss percentages at various stages, and expenses related to feeds, bedding, veterinary services, health products, fuel, electricity, housing, and equipment. Farms using custom heifer-raising services should also have those daily costs available.
Farmers can complete the survey at signup.e2ma.net/signup/2019375/1954380/.
