Posted

The Waupaca Comets girls basketball team used relentless defensive pressure and balanced scoring to earn a 64–44 victory over the visiting Clintonville Truckers on Tuesday night.

Waupaca set the tone early, jumping out to a 32–24 halftime lead behind strong offensive production from Hailey Bechard and Taylor Kling. The Comets matched that 32-point output in the second half to steadily pull away and secure the 20-point win.

Bechard led all scorers with 28 points, knocking down 10 field goals and adding six free throws. She also made her presence felt defensively with eight steals, helping fuel Waupaca’s transition offense. Kling added 25 points, including four three-pointers, while pulling down 12 rebounds to record a double-double. Ava Widdel controlled the glass with a game-high 15 rebounds to go along with seven points.

As a team, Waupaca forced 29 turnovers and collected 23 steals, creating consistent scoring opportunities. The hosts connected on six three-pointers and shot 62.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Clintonville was led by Zoey Ferg, who scored 18 points on an efficient 8-of-14 shooting performance and grabbed nine rebounds. Abby Tate contributed 11 points and six rebounds. Despite outrebounding Waupaca, Clintonville struggled to capitalize on second-chance opportunities.
