CLINTONVILLE – After receiving an estimate of $60,000 for a parking lot paving project in the city of Clintonville, the city will now seek competitive bids because of the cost of the project.
The agenda for the Aug. 11 Clintonville City Council meeting had included an item for the approval of Mid-State Asphalt to complete an asphalt paving project for the parking lots at Clintonville City Hall and the Clintonville Fire Department. Mid-State Asphalt had submitted an estimate of $60,000 to complete the project.
At the meeting, Council President Greg Rose told the council that the parking lots needed repair work done because of the flooding that took place in April. Adjustments to parking lot lighting are also needed. He said the Clintonville Finance Committee approved a number of recommendations to council to handle those issues when the committee met Aug. 10.
When asked to update the council about the recommendations that were approved by the Finance Committee, Clintonville Public Works Director Justin Mc Auly told the council that he would like to delay the approval of the recommendations until the September council meeting.
“It’s been brought to my attention that since we’re over $50,000, it’s actually a Public Works project, I didn’t know it was classified as a Public Works (project),” Mc Auly said.
Because the project is now classified as a Public Works project, Mc Auly said the city needs to obtain competitive bids for the project.
“We want to do it right. We’ll open that (competitive bidding) up this month for next month,” Mc Auly said.
The project
According to an estimate provided by Mid-State Asphalt, the project would include paving approximately 7,102 square feet of the parking lot at Clintonville City Hall and the Clintonville Fire Department. This area would have asphalt added at 2 1/2 inches of depth. Approximately 13,000 square feet of the parking lot would receive asphalt at 4 inches of depth.
A small section of the dam embarkment would also be repaired, Mc Auly said.
The estimate that Mid-State Asphalt provided to the city was for $60,000 to complete the paving project. But now the project will be put out to competitive bidding.
Another item of work around the parking lots would include adding a concrete approach for the back doors of the fire department’s building which will run the length of the building, Mc Auly said.
Mc Auly said the city would also like to remove a light pole from the east side of the parking lot.
“We’ve already looked at some lighting options and putting something on the wood pole that’s on the east side of the building, that’s tight up against the building,” Mc Auly said.
And the final item would be painting the parking stall lines in the parking lots.
