Bulldog’s Joseph Daly leads his team into promising season

The New London Bulldogs are excited for the 2025-2026 boys basketball season. They bring back many starters from last year, including Joseph Daly, who was named Co-Bay Conference Player of the Year.

In his junior year, Joseph led the Bay in both scoring, with 22 points per game, and rebounding, with 12.6 per game. Standing 6-foot-7, Daly also averaged 3.5 assists and made 39 percent of his three-point shots, hitting 58 from beyond the arc.

Daly has also been a standout in both cross country and track and field at New London. As a junior, Daly was part of a cross-country team that won a conference and sectional championship and competed in the state championships.

Introduced to basketball by his father, Jay, Joseph has continued his family’s passion for the sport since beginning his time on the court in third grade. “My dad played basketball in college, and he shared his love of the sport with me at an early age.”

The camaraderie and competitiveness of basketball keep Joseph enthralled in the sport. “My favorite part about this sport is having fun with my teammates. I also love competing every day in practice and in games. I have stuck around for this long because I have seen how my hard work has been paying off. This sport has also provided me with many great experiences, like winning my last AAU tournament in Las Vegas.”

His will to compete is what Joseph believes is his most valuable asset: “my work ethic and competitiveness. I strive to be the best player that I can be on the basketball court by pushing myself in practice and in games.”

Joseph applies those same attributes in the classroom, “As a freshman, I had to learn time management skills within my classes. As a freshman playing varsity basketball, I had to learn to compete against bigger and more physical players on the court. In my freshman year, there was no pressure to have to contribute big numbers because I was just a freshman. Each year in school, I have been taking challenging classes that push me to be the best student that I can be. On the basketball court, beginning as a sophomore, I had more pressure on me to become my team’s scoring and rebounding leader.”

Plenty of coaches and teammates have helped Joseph along the way. “Thank you to all of my senior teammates, Reid Oberstadt, Brett Marquardt, Parker Heise, Treston Kaepernick, Charles Sloma, Jacob Badtke, and Zach Korth. We have been through a lot together over the years. I would also like to thank my dad for coaching me in youth and AAU basketball. I appreciate all of the guidance that my high school and Blizzard AAU coaches have given me.”

As Joseph begins his senior basketball season and looks forward to beginning his college career, he looks back at his previous three years fondly, “Looking back as a senior, I remember all of the players over the past 3 years that have helped me develop into the player that I am today. Those seniors were the role models who shaped me as a basketball player. I am now the senior who can help develop the underclassmen on my team like the seniors in the past did for me.”
