CLINTONVILLE – Harter’s Fox Valley Disposal will continue to handle the garbage and recycling collection and disposal needs of the residents of the city of Clintonville after the Clintonville City Council approved renewing its contract with Harter’s for another five years.
The council approved the five-year contract renewal when it met Aug. 11.
Clintonville Public Works Director Justin Mc Auly told the council that the city had received two bids for the city’s residential garbage and recycling collection and disposal services. In addition to the bid from Harter’s, the city also received a bid from GFL.
Mc Auly said the bid from GFL was for $10 per month for weekly pick-up of garbage and $8.55 per month for bi-weekly pick-up of recycling, for a total of $18.55 per month. The annual increase would be 3% or the amount of the consumer price index (CPI), whichever is greater.
Harter’s provided different options in its bid. Mc Auly said the city picked an option provided by Harter’s that was comparable with the GFL bid. That option included a standard CPI increase. The Harter’s comparable bid was for $10.65 per month for weekly pick-up of garbage and $5.35 per month for bi-weekly pick-up of recycling, for a total of $16 per month.
“So, Harter’s was the cheaper option,” Mc Auly said. “They both have a fuel surcharge that begins at $4 a gallon and it will add 1% to the monthly statement for every 25-cent fuel increase. That was comparable for both.”
