Dellwood Childcare rates to increase 10%

Posted

CLINTONVILLE – The Clintonville Board of Education approved several fee changes for Dellwood Childcare Center at its May 11 meeting, including a rate increase of 10%, effective Sept. 1.
In addition to the 10% increase in rates, the following fee changes were approved:
• Due to illness or vacation, each child will be granted 10 uncharged absence days per year.
• Parents who elect to have their child not attend Dellwood Childcare during the summer months of June to September will be charged a $25 holding fee per child per month to retain their spot.
• Annually, each child will be charged a registration/supply/food fee of $100.

• The hourly rate for a child is $10 per hour up to four hours per day. After four hours, the daily rate will apply.
The rate increase and fee changes were approved by a 5-2 vote. Board members Christopher Hoffmann and Jason Moder voted no.
At its April 27 meeting, the board discussed a rate increase between 30% and 40% at Dellwood Childcare. Some board members felt that increase was too high, resulting in the board taking no action at that meeting to increase rates.
Also at that meeting, the board discussed changes to fees and informally agreed to the fee changes that were eventually approved.
At the May 11 meeting, Moder said he received an email since the April meeting from someone who has their child enrolled at Dellwood Childcare Center. That email included an idea for increasing rates at Dellwood Childcare that would allow families to plan for the increases. He said the idea revolved around increasing rates at Dellwood Childcare 12% every six month for the next 18 months.
“Give time for people to prepare for the increases and to plan for the increases,” Moder said.
He said that he recently found out that another childcare center is charging $150 per month during the summer months to hold a spot for a child to return in the fall.
Moder made an original motion for all the fee changes that were eventually approved, but also a 12% increase in rates every six months for 18 months. The motion did not receive a second.
Board Treasurer Klint Barkow then made the motion that was seconded and eventually approved.
