Governor looks to fill Huber’s seat

Posted

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers announced last week that he is seeking applicants for the Waupaca County Circuit Court – Branch 3. The appointment will fill a vacancy created by the passing of Judge Raymond S. Huber. The new judge will complete a term ending July 31, 2027.
“For the past 25 years, Judge Huber served the people of Waupaca County with fairness, compassion, and dedication,” said Gov. Evers. “From his commitment to public service to his strong farming roots and passion for Wisconsin sports, Judge Huber will be remembered fondly both inside and outside the courthouse. Kathy and I are keeping his family, loved ones, and colleagues in our hearts and prayers during this difficult time, and we extend our condolences to the entire Waupaca County community in mourning his loss.”
The application can be found on the “Apply to Serve” page on Gov. Evers’ website at: www.evers.wi.gov. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Mon., Jan. 5, 2026.
The application resembles a normal job application with a questionnaire, educational and work experience sections and a section for personal information one would supply for a background check. There is a legal practice section asking about experience as an attorney.
There is one section for writing short essays in 500 words or less about the following questions:

  • Why do you want to serve the people of Wisconsin as a judge or justice?
  • Decisions by the Wisconsin Supreme Court and U.S. Supreme Court can greatly impact the people of Wisconsin. Describe which case in the past 25 years by the Wisconsin Supreme Court or U.S. Supreme Court you believe had a significant positive or negative impact on the people of Wisconsin.
  • Identify two or three judges or justices whom you admire and explain why.
  • Describe the proper role of a judge.
  • Also the applicant is asked to submit two legal writing samples.
