Hit and run on Stratton Lake Road

Driver still at large

TOWN OF BELMONT – On May 4 at approximately 5:22 a.m., Portage County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Stratton Lake Road and Fountain Lake Avenue, in the Town of Belmont for a report of a vehicle and pedestrian crash.

The victim, a 27-year-old male, stopped his vehicle in the roadway to remove a metal pipe and nails that were scattered on Stratton Lake Road.

While the victim was standing next to his vehicle, the striking vehicle travelled eastbound on Fountain Lake Avenue and stopped at the stop sign at Stratton Lake Road. The striking vehicle then turned southbound on Stratton Lake Road, striking the victim and pushing him up against his vehicle. The striking vehicle continued southbound on Stratton Lake Road into Waupaca County. The victim sustained moderate injuries and was transported to ThedaCare Waupaca Hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance for further medical treatment.

The striking vehicle’s description is a dark colored, possibly blue or black, two-door sedan, similar to an early 2000s Chevrolet Cavalier. The striking vehicle has black rims and a white bumper sticker on the driver’s side rear bumper. The operator of the striking vehicle is believed to be a male with short hair.
