The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds have plenty of reason to believe 2025 will be an even better season than in 2024, as they finished 6-4 and 4-3 in the Marawood/CWC conference and made a playoff appearance.
Jensen Rice is one of those reasons. Rice is entering his senior season after being named a First Team all-conference selection each of the last two seasons, passing for 615 yards and 10 touchdowns, as well as leading the conference in rushing with 1160 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns.
Another factor will be Rice’s top target, junior tight end Korz Loken, who has garnered plenty of attention in the offseason, receiving several offers to play at the college level, and is considered the top player in his class in the state of Wisconsin.
Loken caught 28 passes for 425 yards to go with nine touchdown catches. His size, speed, and athletic ability make him a consistent threat to score.
Second-Team all-conference member Owen Wolberg will be the leader on the offensive line, as unanimous First-Team member Ryan Doede and Honorable Mention Brian Krosberg have graduated. Honorable Mention Bill Myers will also be gone after rushing for 589 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Rice and Loken will also need to lead on defense as they were both Second-Team all-conference, as a defensive back and linebacker, respectively.
The Thunderbirds will also look to Second-Team member Charlie Tappa to contribute at defensive back, along with Honorable Mention junior linebacker Tanner Kampert, as they lose First-Team members Doede on the line, Myers at linebacker, and Honorable Mention defensive back Kyrylo Kopytsia.
