Iola-Scandinavia football preview

Posted

The 2025 Iola-Scandinavia team had high hopes going into the season, but key injuries hampered them as they went 2-7 and 1-6 in the Marawood/Central Wisconsin Conference. Major changes have been underway for the Thunderbirds as they will be moving to play eight-player football moving forward in 2026.

One of the top players in the state and a University of Wisconsin commit, Korz Loken, will lead the way for the T-birds as they make the transition on the field. Loken was injured in the second game of his junior season as Iola had plenty of expectations going into 2025.

Second-Team all-conference tight end Wyatt Wolberg will be another weapon for Iola as he caught 13 passes for 214 yards and three touchdowns.

The offense will look for others to step up as dual-threat quarterback Jensen Rice graduates after having a standout career where he was a three-time all-conference performer, as well as losing Owen Wolberg, who was an all-conference member on the offensive line.

The Thunderbirds may need Loken to step up on defense as well, as he has been an all-conference edge rusher in the past.

Wyatt Wolberg and Tanner Kampert will be part of the linebacker unit, as they were All-Marawood/CWC members last season.

Rice was also an all-conference defensive back that will be missed, as well as Owen Wolberg, who was a main presence on the defensive line.
