Life in prison for parent killer

WOLF RIVER – On Oct. 17, Winnebago County Judge Michael Gibbs sentenced Erik Metzig, 28, back-to-back life terms for killing both of his parents in their Wolf River home. He will have no chance for parole.
In the early morning hours of March 19, 2023, Metzig shot his both his parents David and Jan Metzig while they were in bed. He was convicted last year after pleading no contest to two charges of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide.
The mother and father were the former owners of Union Star Cheese Factory on County Trunk II in Zittau. Their other son, Jon Metzig, is now the owner and operator and continues the family business as a Wisconsin Master Cheesemaker.
