Rec Center user rates to increase 10%

Posted

CLINTONVILLE – Those who use the Rec Center at Clintonville High School will see a 10% increase in user rates beginning Jan. 1, 2027.
The Clintonville Board of Education approved the rate increase when it met April 27. Along with increasing rates, the board also approved closing the swimming pools at 7 p.m. each day. That is to start immediately.
During the discussion, Clintonville Superintendent Troy Kuhn said the revenue for the Rec Center is about $260,000. The majority of the expenses are related to the swimming pools, with roughly $180,000 spent annually for the operation of the swimming pools.
If the board wanted, it could move some of the utility expenses for the Rec Center from Fund 80 (Community Service) to Fund 10 (General Fund), Kuhn said.
Kuhn added that the board could also close the swimming pool everyday at 7 p.m.

“It’s not necessarily always going to save on cost, but it’s really hard to staff after 7 o’clock because most high schoolers are lifeguards and they can’t work after 7,” Kuhn said.
A 10% increase to a family plan would amount to an increase of $3 per month.
Board member Christopher Hoffmann said there were no operational cost savings for the Rece Center provided to the board. He asked if the district couldn’t find any cost savings.
Kuhn said the district looked for cost savings, but couldn’t find any.
He added that having a special wristband for those who use only the swimming pools and charging them extra fees was discussed. But he said it would be a “nightmare” to implement.
