School board admonished to have better etiquette

New officers elected

CLINTONVILLE – Prior to the election of officers at the Clintonville Board of Education reorganizational meeting April 27, board member Klink Barkow, who has been member of the board for two years, addressed the board about being respectful to each other.
“In those past two years, we’ve witnessed some pretty appalling behavior at times on this board, both at and outside these meetings,” Barkow said. “I guess for me, and I’m sure some others of you who are here, it’s been downright sometimes embarrassing.”
Barkow said he hoped that all board members would agree to end that type of behavior “and start with a clean slate and start treating each other with respect. We need to bring back etiquette and ethics to this board.”
“Clintonville deserves better. Clintonville’s kids deserve better,” Barkow said. “And we need to start that with this board tonight and this year.”

Officer elections

When the Clintonville Board of Education held its election of officers at the meeting, three new officers were elected.
Board members Ben Huber and Jason Moder were each nominated for president of the board. Huber was elected president by a 4-3 vote. Huber has been president of the board in the past.
“Thank you for putting me back in this position,” Huber told the board after the vote.
Board members Kris Strauman and Klint Barkow were each nominated for vice president of the board. Strauman was elected vice president by a 4-3 vote.
Laurie Vollrath was the only board member nominated to serve as the board’s clerk, and she will hold that position.
Board members Barkow and Moder were both nominated to serve as treasurer of the board. Prior to the vote, Moder, who was the treasurer entering the meeting, told members of the board he would rather not serve another term as treasurer. Barkow was elected treasurer by a 6-1 vote.
