School board meets its new legal firm

Posted

CLINTONVILLE – Attorneys Mark Fischer and Bill Kapocious of the legal firm von Briesen & Roper virtually attended a portion of the Oct. 27 Clintonville Board of Education meeting to introduce the legal firm to the board.
Fischer told the board that von Briesen & Roper “represent a number of school districts throughout Wisconsin.”
“We have offices throughout the state,” Fischer said.
Office locations include the Fox Valley, Milwaukee, Madison, and Eau Claire, he said.
Board member Mark Zachow asked if von Briesen & Roper would be charging the Clintonville School District a retainer fee now that it represents the school district.

Kapocious said they would not charge the district a retainer fee.
“We do a flat fee for our school services,” Kapocious said. “So, it’s one fee for all levels of law.”
That information is different from the information presented in the proposal von Briesen & Roper submitted to the district. In their proposal, it was stated, “We would be interested in working out a cost-effective retainer to assist with simple questions and are open to an amount the District believes is fair and cost effective.”
In that same proposal, it was stated they charge a blended rate of $345 per hour.
