Supanich and Braden appointed to city council

CLINTONVILLE – The Clintonville Common Council approved appointing Jim Supanich and Brandon Braden to fill the two vacant seats it had on the council.
The approvals came at the council’s May 12 meeting.
Supanich was appointed to fill the vacant seat representing District 4. That seat was vacated by Jeannie Schley after she won the Clintonville mayoral election in April.
Braden was appointed to fill the vacant seat representing District 5. Braden was the most recent alderperson to occupy that seat but did not seek reelection in April. No resident submitted candidacy paperwork to be on the ballot for the election in April.

District 4

Along with Supanich, who had served on the council for five years in the past, Tom Lederer, who had also served on the council in the past, had applied to fill the vacant District 4 seat.
When the council voted for who it would appoint to fill the open District 4 seat, the vote ended in a 4-4 tie. After the vote, Clintonville City Attorney Keith Steckbauer told the council that according to the city’s policy, if there is a tie, then the council must revote until one candidate received the majority of the votes.
When the council voted a second time, Supanich received five votes and Lederer received three votes. By receiving the most votes, Supanich was appointed to the council.
After it was announced that Supanich would be appointed to the council, he told the council, “I want to thank the council for the vote.”
Supanich will fill the remainder of Schley’s term representing District 4.

District 5
Braden was the only resident of District 5 to apply to fill the district’s open seat.
In his application letter to Clintonville City Mayor Jeannie Schley, requesting he be appointed to fill the vacant District 5 seat on the council, Braden stated, “I have held a seat as an alderperson in the City of Clintonville for the past eight years, but I did not originally run for reelection as I was interested in passing the torch this year to a new council member; unfortunately, nobody expressed interest in the position in time to get their name on the election ballot.”
Braden was appointed to fill the seat and serve a full term on the council by a unanimous vote of the council.
