STEVENS POINT — Jordan Coyle, a suspect in the Sept. Amber Alert issued in Almond, has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Corrections over a 2008 sentencing.
On Sept. 11, an Amber Alert was issued when a six-year-old girl was missing from Almond. The child was found safely in the woods on Sept. 13 with Coyle, her uncle.
The child’s mother, Chelsie Lehmann, is facing charges in relation to the amber alert. Lehmann is currently facing charges of Harboring a Felon and Encouraging Parole/Probation Violation. Jordan Coyle is currently listed on the sex offender registry, with the condition to not reside with minors. Lehmann and her minor children began living with Coyle, who formed a close relationship with the missing child. Upon learning this, the Wisconsin Department of Corrections issued a warrant for his arrest. He avoided law enforcement and fled from his residence on Sept. 9 upon law enforcement arrival.
Coyle has not been charged in relation to the Amber Alert case but remains in state custody. Sherriff Mike Lukas said during a Sept. press conference that the investigation of the scene and all scenes involved in the case would need to be completed prior to charging Coyle.
On Oct. 20, Coyle filed a lawsuit against the Department of Corrections for what he states was improper sentencing. According to court records, in 2008 in Waushara County, Coyle was found guilty at a jury trial for two counts of 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of Child. Then, in 2012 Coyle was convicted in Waushara County on two counts of Taking and Driving a Vehicle without Owner’s Consent.
Coyle filed a letter with the court, stating the combination of sentences issued from the 2008 and 2012 were improper, claiming he deserved credit for three years of time served that should allow him to be released from state custody. A hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 20 in Waushara County.
