Weyauwega-Fremont needed to beat 1-7 Colby to finish the season with a 5-4 record and secure a spot in the WIAA playoffs.
To start the scoring, Colby got on the board first with a 12-yard touchdown run in the first quarter by Milo Nunez that gave them a 7-0 lead.
In response, Warhawks quarterback Carter Birdyshaw broke several tackles on a 27-yard touchdown run to make the deficit 7-6.
Shortly after, Broc Bilington’s interception led to a Birdyshaw for a 15-yard touchdown pass to make the score 12-7 in the Warhawks favor.
Colby regained the lead when a backwards pass was called a fumble and returned 44 yards for a touchdown, making it 14-12.
Bryce Magdanz intercepted a pass to put the Warhawks in the red zone, and Dawson Lind finished the drive with a 15-yard touchdown run. Lind then added a two-point conversion, bringing the score to 20-14.
The Warhawks defense sealed the win by tackling Colby in the end zone for a safety, making the final score 22-14 and clinching a playoff spot.
Next, the Warhawks will head to Cambridge for the first round of the playoffs.
