Waupaca ends season on a high note

The Comets looked to close out the season with their second straight victory as they took on Xavier.

Xavier took an early lead after a successful field goal attempt in the first quarter gave them a 3-0 lead.

Jacob Meyer gave Xavier a 10-0 lead after a 29 yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

A 68 yard touchdown catch by Finn Schanke gave Xavier the 17-0 lead going into the second quarter.

Xavier took a 24-0 lead on a five yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter.

Waupaca scored in the second quarter with a 58-yard catch and run for a touchdown by Westin Lauritzen. Quarterback Austin Adamczak scored the two-point conversion with a keeper that made the deficit 24-8.

The Comets were able to narrow the gap with a three yard touchdown run by Adamczak after recovering an onside kick and a successful two-point conversion made the score 24-16.

A 64-yard yard touchdown catch by Lauritzen made the deficit 24-22.
Lauritzen on coming back from a 24 point deficit, “It’s all trust and belief in each other, emotions are high and that just shows the bond of this team.”

Comets took the lead in the third quarter with an Adamczak touchdown run from three yards out to make the score 28-24 and a two-point conversion gave Waupaca the 30-24 lead.

With nine seconds left in the fourth quarter, Lauritzen intercepted a Xavier pass to give to end the game and make the final score 30-24 and give Waupaca their third win in their final game of the season.

Lauritzen finished the game with six receptions, 188 yards and two touchdowns.
