Weyauwega-Fremont girls defeat Shiocton in first round

The Weyauwega-Fremont Warhawks earned a victory over a visiting Shiocton on Feb. 24 in the first round of the WIAA girls playoffs.

Weyauwega-Fremont built its advantage behind a commanding 43–31 rebounding edge, including 20 offensive boards that led to key extra possessions.

McKenna Ferg turned in a standout performance with 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, dominating inside and converting 8-of-12 free throws. Elizabeth Koplien added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Chamille Birdyshaw led the team in scoring with 14 points and four steals, providing energy on both ends of the floor.

The home team also capitalized at the charity stripe, knocking down 18-of-25 free throws, a decisive factor in extending the lead.

In the regional final the Warhawks fell on the road to Marathon to end their 2026 season with a 14-12 record.
