Boys & Girls Club visit D.C.

Posted

STEVENS POINT — The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County visited Washington D.C. on the eve of the country’s 250th anniversary. From June 22 to June 26, 36 teens from the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County got the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C., along with Clubs in Fox Valley and the Tri-County area.
This trip was funded by the Herb Khol Philanthropies through their Learning Journey program. This program not only allows Wisconsin students to experience first-hand how history shaped our nation, but it also provides hands-on civic education, leadership development, and opportunities for personal growth.
During the five-day journey, the Portage County delegation embarked on an intensive educational itinerary. From touring the Capital building to walking around the grounds of Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., and World War II Memorials. The group also spent meaningful time absorbing profound history at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and gathered at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
