PORTAGE COUNTY — A Portage County deer farm has tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD).
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection confirmed that a three-year-old buck tested positive for the disease at the Portage County farm. The farm is currently under quarantine.
Chronic wasting disease is a fatal neurological disease found in deer, elk, and moose. It is found in the infectious protein prion, which affects the animal’s nervous system.
