STEVENS POINT — The Common Council has approved a bid from Miron Construction to build the new City Hall, located at 1039 Ellis Street.
The site for the future city hall was formerly the Historic Weber Tackle Building, which was torn down in Feb. and March. In a press release, the mayor states the design of the new city hall will honor the Weber Tackle Building and incorporate its’ history.
Miron Construction was awarded the bid for an amount not to exceed $14,802,329.30. The original cost estimate for the new city hall rang in at almost $18 million in Aug. of 2025.
In a press release, Mayor Wiza stated the base bid with approved alternatives and a 10% contingency comes in at about $13 million.
Eight contractors’ submitted proposals for the project, but project architect Justin Marquis said Miron came out as the lowest bidder among the batch. Marquis, said, “Miron Construction was identified as the lowest bidder per the requirements we laid out for all those bidders to adhere to.”

Following the approval of the base bid to Miron Construction, council members then voted on individual alternates. Approved alternates include a generator, solar panels, bird friendly glass, and an irrigation system. Denied alternates include a rooftop patio and a parking garage with accompanying solar panels.
“I’m especially proud of the design team at Somerville Architects and Engineers,” Wiza continued. “They did exactly what they said they could do and we were able to incorporate green initiatives like using natural lighting as much as possible, high efficiency boilers and pumps, low flow plumbing fixtures, sustainability certifications on interior finish products, solar panels and more. Heck, even some of the ceiling tiles are plant based.”
Groundbreaking for the new city hall is expected to begin in early June and construction is expected to be completed in July 2027.
