Door2Dreams advances past Plan Commission

Posted

STEVENS POINT — The Door2Dreams housing development planned for Maria Drive advanced past the Stevens Point Plan Commission on July 6.
The housing development will home adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The land on Maria Drive will be divided into nine developable lots, two out lots to be used for storm water management and driveway access, and a future extension of Third Street, Meadow Street, and Academy Avenue. Lots three through eight will range from 5,850 square feet to 6,500 square feet and are intended for single-family residents. Lot two is intended for a cottage court development. Lot one is planned as a gathering lodge. Lot nine will be built for a future multi-family residential development.
Third Street, Meadow Street, and Academy Avenue will require extensions to provide access to all developable parcels.
Alderperson Kneebone was the sole vote of opposition, citing concern about a portion of the lot that would take up a “considerable chunk” of wetland. City staff clarified that while wetland was included in the lot, building upon the wetland falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of Natural Resources and cannot be automatically built upon.
Next, the housing development will need to pass through the Common Council for final approval.
