Explosive seventh inning guides Amherst past Iola

Posted

Amherst Falcons traveled to face the Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds on May 4, in a Central Wisconsin Conference-East matchup.

The Thunderbirds took an early lead in the bottom of the second inning, as Mason Mofrey drove in a run with a single, and a bases-loaded walk made the score 2-0.

The Falcons remained scoreless until the seventh, when Michael Glodowski delivered a two-run single, tying the game.

Building on that momentum, Wyatt Beaudoin added a two-run RBI single, giving Amherst a 4-2 lead.

Logan Hintz gave the Falcons an insurance run in the bottom of the inning with a single on a ground ball to bring in Sully Perkins to score and make the Amherst lead 5-2.

The Thunderbirds went into the bottom of the seventh inning needing three runs to push the game into extra innings, and Wyatt Wolberg gave them a spark with a single to drive in a run, but that was all Iola could rally as they fell to Amherst 5-3.
