TOWN OF PINE GROVE – On August 20, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., Portage County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 7300 block of County Trunk N in the Town of Pine Grove for a report of a 69-year-old male who was stung by a bee. He was allergic to bee stings.
Deputies found the patient unresponsive but breathing. Several EpiPen doses were administered by individuals on scene prior to the deputy arrival but were unsure if they were administered correctly. EpiPens are slender auto-ejectors containing epinephrine, the key ingredient for treating bee stings.
The deputy then administered his EpiPen and short while later, the patient regained consciousness. The patient was examined by medical professionals and released.
The Portage County Sheriff’s Office recently implemented the use of EpiPens. The EpiPen program was made possible by donations received from the Andrew Mueller Fund in June 2026.
Deputies were assisted by Almond EMS and the Portage County Ambulance.
