STEVENS POINT — The Artistic Lighting Project began in 2021 with an idea to personify light poles along the Green Circle Trail near Pfiffner Pioneer Park. The first installation, called “Singing in the Rain”, was installed in spring of 2022. Since then the city has installed two new lights each year along the path.
The latest light, called “Tiny Dancer” was designed by local artist, Mackenzie Biadasz, built by local fabricator Andy Vollert and after fabrication was complete, Mayor Wiza reached out to Don Rasmussen and Point Coating, a locally owned custom manufacturer and powder coating facility to powder coat the light. Don agreed to donate the work. Funding for the materials for this light came from a donation from Michelle Strasser-Goman in memory of her daughter, Hannah, who loved to dance. Hannah was killed by a drunk driver in February of 2022.
“This started out as a cool community-based idea and gathered momentum because of our generous community support. Everyone pulled together to make this happen,” said Mayor Wiza. “I’m excited to see it installed in Hannah’s memory to see people enjoying all of these lights for years to come. I also look forward to seeing the other ideas the community has and watching them come to life”.
Design ideas and donations can be submitted to the City of Stevens Point via Mayor Mike Wiza’s Office.
